Have you ever stopped to think about all the times you promised God that IF He’d help you, you in return would…go to church…stop drinking…stop cursing…be kinder…help others…, etc.???
I know I have! Many times!
It’s kind of like us telling God, “If you’ll do this for me…I’ll owe You one…”
Problem is, most of us never keep our word. We never keep our promises to God.
I looked up the phrase I.O.U. Here’s what it said:
An IOU is usually an informal document acknowledging debt. An IOU differs from a promissory note in that an IOU is not a negotiable instrument and does not specify repayment terms such as the time of repayment….
God is patient. God is kind. HE IS merciful! And, although He waits for us to keep our word, and does not specify a time of repayment…He does expect us to do as we promised – promptly!
Take a look at the following verse…
When you make a promise to God, don’t delay in following through, for God takes no pleasure in fools. Keep all the promises you make to him. -Ecclesiastes 5:4
Then again in Deuteronomy 23:21 it says…”When you make a vow to the LORD your God, be prompt in fulfilling whatever you promised him. For the LORD your God demands that you promptly fulfill all your vows, or you will be guilty of sin.”
We all need to take inventory of our I.O.U.’s to God! Have you made a promise? Then, keep your promise…fulfill your vow to Him!
