Shortest verse in the Bible (in Greek)   1 Thess. 5:16

1 Thessalonians 2:19

For what is it we live for, that gives us hope and joy and is our proud reward and crown? It is you! Yes, you will bring us much joy as we stand together before our Lord Jesus Christ when he comes back again.

Joy killers

  1. Loneliness

The Seattle Times.
Starbucks, is the place where socially isolated, lonely, needy people gather together to ignore one another.

  1. Disorders

Depression, anxiety, health

  1. Materialsim

Money, stuff,

  1. Unfulfilled expectations

  2. SIN

Restore unto me Psalm 51

Joy is Vital to walking with God

Philippians 4:4  NIV

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

Good News Translation

May you always be joyful in your union with the Lord. I say it again: rejoice!

Joy is Vital to Walking in Strength

Nehemiah 8:10

10 Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

Your Joy is Vital to Your Church

Don’t go to church to find joy…

Philemon 1:7 NIV

Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people.

Joy is vital to bringing people to Jesus Christ.

Romans 15:13

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Joy is a gift from God to share with others

John 15:11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

The Awesome of Today

1 Peter 1:8-9

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Romans 12:12 NIV

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

Psalm 94:19

When anxiety was great within me,

your consolation brought me joy.

The Awesome of Tomorrow

Psalm 16:11  NIV

You make known to me the path of life;

you will fill me with joy in your presence,

with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Isaiah 55 (NIV)

Invitation to the Thirsty

55 “Come, all you who are thirsty,

come to the waters;

and you who have no money,

come, buy and eat!

Come, buy wine and milk

without money and without cost.

2 Why spend money on what is not bread,

and your labor on what does not satisfy?

Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,

and you will delight in the richest of fare.

3 Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live.

I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.

4 See, I have made him a witness to the peoples,

a ruler and commander of the peoples.

5 Surely you will summon nations you know not,

and nations you do not know will come running to you,

because of the Lord your God,

the Holy One of Israel,

for he has endowed you with splendor.”

6 Seek the Lord while he may be found;

call on him while he is near.

7 Let the wicked forsake their ways

and the unrighteous their thoughts.

Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them,

and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

neither are your ways my ways,”

declares the Lord.

9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher than your ways

and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10 As the rain and the snow

come down from heaven,

and do not return to it

without watering the earth

and making it bud and flourish,

so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,

11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:

It will not return to me empty,

but will accomplish what I desire

and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

12 You will go out in joy

and be led forth in peace;

the mountains and hills

will burst into song before you,

and all the trees of the field

will clap their hands.

13 Instead of the thornbush will grow the juniper,

and instead of briers the myrtle will grow.

This will be for the Lord’s renown,

for an everlasting sign,

that will endure forever.”

2 John 1:12 Well, I would like to say much more, but I don’t want to say it in this letter, for I hope to come to see you soon, and then we can talk over these things together and have a joyous time.

I found the following little poem while cleaning out some drawers.  It is from an old church bulletin from my dad’s church.  It has a great message…take a look.  -anita

The clock of life is wound but once,

And no man has the power

To tell just when the hands will stop

At late or early hour.

To lose one’s wealth is sad indeed.

To lose one’s health is more.

To lose one’s soul is such a loss

That no man can restore.  -Unknown

Many people around the world died while you read this short poem.  Every hour, several thousands of people go to meet their Maker.  You could have been among them.  Sooner or later, you will be.

Hard Times Ministries

Anyone who turns on any news channel is immediately thrust into a world of despair by news generated by our news teams around the world.

While I’m not attempting to paint a rosy picture that all is well, yet the media seems to go out of its way to illustrate every event in its most woeful description.

Climate Change, for example is a topic advanced as if our entire globe were going to disintegrate in the nearby future at the hands of greedy capitalist.  The Population Bomb {1995} by Paul R. Ehrlich is really a redraft of his original book of the 1960s.  In that book we were told how the entire world would be led to starvation within a few short years.  As we all know this did not happen as technological advances in food production were not foreseen.  This seems to be the case often as the doomsayers…

She hobbled painfully down the street, accompanied by a little white

noticed printing on the yellow vest, indicating that the dog was an

which animals bring into our lives, and how they demonstrate God’s love
to us. I am currently reading ‘Comet’s Tale: how the dog I rescued

had been raced, abused, starved and abandoned. It is this very dog

Here’s one from Lee that I’m sure you’ll enjoy! -anita

I just finished watching a fascinating short video created online by Prager University ( delivered by well-known physicist, Dr. Brian Keating. Dr. Keating is a professor at U. Cal San Diego.

His thesis is this: “What’s a Greater Leap of Faith: God or the ‘Multiverse’?” Keating notes that some 70% of the scientists in the National Academy of Sciences portray themselves as atheists. They wish to debunk the faith held by millions of Christian believers because, as they maintain, there is no evidence to prove the existence of God. None of that is news, I suppose. Science supposedly exists to prove, through consistently replicable experimentation, that some physical fact is true or not. If a theory can’t show consistent experimental outcomes, then it can’t be considered fact.

Interestingly, though, here comes a nationally-known astrophysicist who says that the science community has a serious problem, also, when it comes to proven facts about the so-called multiverse theory. This theory postulates that there isn’t the one universe that we know (somewhat, anyway) and live in; there is an infinite number of universes. And, if that’s the case, there is one somewhere that is probably exactly like ours. Further, since we’re talking about infinite universes, anything we can conceive of is possible…all without the need for a God.

As Keating points out though, this universe that we do know and love is “a very hostile place.” He cites the existence of phenomena like solar flares, cosmic rays, and asteroids flying about, for example, to reach the conclusion that it’s amazing that anything manages to exist. Let alone a world like ours where so many things clearly work in unison to create an environment where we can exist and thrive. And against such unbelievable odds!

Dr. Keating concludes that the scientific community lives with and exhibits the same kind of depth of faith for which they criticize the Christian community. Science can’t prove the theory of multiverses (In large part because we live solely in this one!) any more than you and I can indisputably prove the existence of God. But I would say this: I can look around me at the world in which we live, and see what I believe is amazing evidence for an all-powerful God. A God filled with the gifts of sophisticated creativity, artistry, wisdom, and boundless love. Granted, I can’t look at a rose and say with certain that God created it. But the fragile roses in my garden look so unlike anything else in this hostile universe and they seem to proclaim that a God, a great lover of beauty, made that rose. At the same time, I can say with great certainty that I’ve never seen another universe. So who exhibits the greater leap of faith?! To God be the glory!

I watched a movie the other day called Ricochet.  It was a story about a biker gang that took over a small community and wreaked havoc on the residents on a daily basis.

In walks a huge ex-military guy, and starts cleaning up on the biker guys.  I guess my point in sharing the back ground of this story is to lay the ground work for what I saw as I watched.

I can’t speak for you, but in my life, the devil and his gang of imps have in the past taken over my life and wreaked havoc on me!  I was afraid to retaliate…or to even seek solace from God because he, the devil, had me convinced that he was more powerful.

But then…in walks God!  He took vengence on the devil and his imps!  And HE did it..just for me!

In the movie, there was a girl that was so terrified of the bikers, she told the ex-military guy to just leave…that she had no way out…no other choice….  She couldn’t see that she had a savior, waiting for her to accept his help, for she was too fearful.

That’s when it hit me.  We do the same thing sometimes.  God shows up to rescue us, but we are so convinced that there is no hope.  THE SAVIOR of the world stands before us on a daily basis, willing and able to help us…but we must ACCEPT His offer.

Are you tired of living in fear?  Are you tired of allowing an evil entity to govern and rule your life?  Are you tired of “living” in despair?

Then…LOOK UP!  The Savior, Jesus Christ is standing right there in front of you!  He stands with arms open wide, waiting for you to run to Him!  You don’t have to live in fear and despair any longer!  Run to Him…He’s waiting for YOU!

I’ve posted this before…but I needed to preach to myself this morning.  I’m going through a storm right now, and I needed to remember where my peace comes from.  Take a look, and  see if you agree with me that Jesus IS our peace… -anita

When on life’s stormy ocean,
My ship’s tossed to and fro,

While sinking fast and drowning,
HE reminds me where to go.

Down on my knees I fall,
And there, His power is made real…

When The Captain comes on board,
And whispers to me, “Peace…be still!”

The tempest raged before me,
And my ship rocked back and forth;

I felt I was alone…
And that my vessel had no worth.

But then, The Captain stepped on board
And held me close until,

I heard Him in His still small voice,
Whisper, “Peace… be still!”

There was nothing loud within His voice…
Just quiet authority;

Yet the winds and waves obeyed His will,
When He whispered, “Peace…be still!”

He quieted the storm around me
From the consequence of sin.

The tempest calmed before me…
It was smooth sailing once again.

Now my days are filled with singing…
And I KNOW His peace is real;

For in my storm, He stepped on board
And whispered, “Peace…be still!

I wrote the following poem back in 2006, but was reminded of it again this morning as I watched the news!

The things that are going on in this world…as close as your neighbor’s back yard, is unbelievable!

God made this world perfect in the beginning…EDEN…a paradise!  It sure isn’t that anymore…. -anita

Genesis 3:14-15

The LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, Cursed are you more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you will go, And dust you will eat All the days of your life; And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”

This can’t be it!

It’s all too wrong!

This world’s gone topsy, turvy!

And when you voice that view out loud…

Folks think you’re being nervy!

But, read the paper if you dare…

Or listen to the news;

The things you hear will make you sick,

And maybe blow your fuse!

Students, having sex with teachers,

Sordid, hidden affairs, involving Famous TV preachers!

Disease and pestilence, with no known cure…

Oceans, tainted and polluted, no longer pure!

Child abuse, and neglect on the rise…

Careers more important…the family’s demise!

Abortion, rape and murder…

Things now learned at a young age;

Some learn these things within their own homes,

From their drunken father’s rage!

High School students, killed in accidents,

Due to alcohol and drugs…

Drive by shootings, day by day

Done by gangsters, and little thugs!

Crack houses, and Meth labs

Found in neighborhoods of respect;

So…you think you KNOW your neighbors?

HA!  Everyone, now is suspect!

There’s Doggy Day Care, and Pet cemetary plots…

While we let countless numbers of the human race,

Live homeless under the bridge and rot!

Half the world is starving to death…

But we throw good food away;

Animal activists, rally for the rights of our “Dumb Friends”,

But who speaks for the unborn that

Are aborted by the millions everyday?

Sunday School teachers, and preachers alike

Molesting their parishioners children…

Instead of being the Shepherds of the Flock,

They’re now know as the villains!

Then there’s this “preacher”, from my home state,

Marching against the gays…

Picketing our dead soldiers funerals,

With mindless followers…crazed!

The worst part is, he encourages

His followers to join in and participate!

Instead of teaching them the LOVE OF GOD…

He’s teaching them to hate!

And how about the barren woman,

So desperate and wild…

Slicing open a pregnant woman

For her unborn child?

Now, as if things here aren’t bad enough…

Here…in our own little “Pea Patch”…

Just look at news around the world…

You’re sure to find a match!

Religious leaders, condoning terrorist acts,

All in the Name of God;

Acts of atrocity, by one nation against another…

“Holy Wars”, know as Jihad!

No regard for your neighbor…

No sense of fair play;

Remember how 911 left countless widowed and fatherless?

In case you haven’t noticed…

This world is in a deplorable mess!

Incest, same gender marriage, and middle school

Aged girls having babies…

No regrets, no remorse, no promises kept…

The best we can do now is just, “maybe…”

No right or wrong…no black or white…

Everything now is just gray.

Words like: Values, Self Control, and Integrity,

Aren’t politically correct to say!

The uneducated and poor,

As well as the rich, with degrees,

Use alcohol and drugs for depression…

The worldwide, pandemic disease!

Instead of giving discipline,

With love…like God commands,

People just put their kids in a dark closet,…

Or maybe a dog kennel, until they “understand”!

What about the mom that strapped her kids into car seats,

And then drove them into the lake?

…People! …WAKE UP!

And let’s talk about that, one-eyed monster…

That thing, we call TV;

You can turn to almost any channel,

And see pornography!

It’s GOD that we are needing!

Because, from what I see…

THIS, is more like hell…I’m SURE it isn’t Eden!!!

The impossible job of helping people who don’t want to be helped

I read this the other day on a site called, Hard Times Ministries. I quite agree! See what you think…

Hard Times Ministries

Anyone who’s ever been around an alcoholic knows it is impossible to really help them until they realize they need help.  The same is true for other afflictions.

One person might see it as extremely intransigent to discuss anger issues with a person easily angered.  They deny it, and point the finger back to you.

This is true also when dealing with a psychopathic supervisor who bullies others into submission. In fact, when it comes to help, it is not the bully who really needs help it is the abused as a result of the bully and so too for others who impose their will on us.

Let’s face it.  Some tyrants really enjoy being tyrants and for others, they also enjoy inflicting pain on other people.  It is their delight and they will brag upon it.  Simply ask a sociopath and see. They rejoice at the stupidity of others…

Inspired by a magpie

Wilderness Joy

Praise is the rehearsal of our eternal song. ~ Charles Spurgeon

magpie1“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a
sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess His name”
(Hebrews 13:15).

Our voices are made as instruments of praise.
We  laud and magnify our Creator King.
Our destiny is to be part of a never ending chorus of praise
to the majesty of God.
Today may we join the birds in allowing our praises to rise freely
and frequently to the throne room of the King.

Recently I saw a magpie on the TV antenna next door, and was very
distressed to notice that it had part of its beak missing. When I
mentioned it to my next door neighbour, she reassured me that this
magpie had been around for some time, and in spite of its obvious
challenges, it was managing to eat and drink.
