“Take a walk with ME…”

I woke up this morning thinking about the paths my life has taken.  Some were straight and smooth…while others were steep and rocky.  As I look back, I realize what made the trek so different.  It was my attitude, my response to the situation.

The roads that were straight and smooth were only that way because I traveled with Jesus by my side.  My steep and rocky climbs in life were a consequence of traveling alone…without HIM!

Life always has its ups and downs…daily…moment by moment, but it is how we respond that makes the difference-in the situation, and the outcome.

When you carry resentment around with you, it grows.  At first, you hold a small amount, but if you continue to harbor it in your heart, it becomes a monster that will consume you.  I’m speaking from experience…I KNOW it to be true!  I’ve heard it likened to a drug addiction…the longer you “use”, the more you need.  It keeps you from forgiving, because without the anger and rage,  you have no energy source.

Max Lucado said this about resentment, and I quote from his book called, The Applause of Heaven:

“Hatred is the rabid dog that turns on its owner.  Revenge is the raging fire that consumes the arsonist.  Bitterness is the trap that snares the hunter.  And MERCY is the choice that can set them all free!” -Max Lucado

It says in 1 Peter 3:8-9 (MSG) :

Be agreeable, be sympathetic, be loving, be compassionate, be humble.
9 That goes for all of you, no exceptions. No retaliation. No sharp-tongued sarcasm. Instead, bless – that’s your job, to bless. You’ll be a blessing and also get a blessing.
Tim McGraw said in his song,  Humble and Kind:  “Don’t hold a grudge or a chip and here’s why…Bitterness keeps you from flying…Always stay humble and kind.”
In Isaiah 45:2, it says, ” I will go before you, and make the crooked places straight…”  In another version it says,  “I will go before you and will level the mountains…”  Both of these translations  indicate that Jesus must walk with you, for HE is the one that levels your path.
The choice is yours today.  Do you want to struggle to climb that lonely mountain of fear, hate and resentment?  Or do you want to take a walk with Jesus, and find mercy and forgiveness?
