I love my garden!
My husband Mike is the one with the ‘green thumb’; my only contribution is to water, pull weeds, and…when I see a storm coming that could produce hail, I pray over my plants and flowers and plead with God to keep the storm from coming over my sanctuary!
This morning as I watered, I noticed that the weeds I pulled last week, are back 😦 They seem to blow in out of nowhere, and take root instantly!
Then…this thought came into my mind about my heart. Let me just say…I’m not perfect! Far from it! But I do try to ‘weed out’ the ugly thoughts I have in my mind before they take root in my heart. I don’t always achieve my goal…but I do try.
I have found that the things I think…my thoughts, are like seeds. Most things I think about produce beautiful flowers in my heart, but…there are a few seeds that have no business in the garden of my heart! They are wicked, evil, and downright UGLY! Sometimes they come from my woundedness….things done to me in my past. Other times, they spring up immediately after someone has hurt me with their words…the word revenge comes to mind at those times. Then there are those seeds of pride. The “flowers” created by this seed, look beautiful…but they are still weeds!
If you’ve planted seeds of kindness, love, hope, and joy…those things will come back to you and your life, even with its up’s and down’s will be blessed.
However, if you plant seeds of discord, anger, hate, and doubt…you can expect a miserable life! You’ll be known as a sour, crotchety, rude person that no on wants to be around.
Every day…every moment really, we must decide if we want a garden full of flowers…or a patch of weeds growing in our hearts. The Bible puts it this way:
“Finally my brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things!” -Philippians 4:8
Your choice. …But be careful how you choose; one choice makes you win…the other makes you lose!
