in·de·pend·ence VS de·pend·ence

Since today is July 4th – Independence Day, the day our nation celebrates it’s freedom from tyranny, I thought I would look up the difference between the two words found in the title.

I wanted to check out the meaning of the words because I wanted the full perspective; so I went to the dictionary and here’s what it said:

**de·pend·ence  -the state of relying on or being controlled by someone or something else.

**in·de·pend·ence  –self-governmentself-rulehome ruleseparationself-determinationsovereigntyautonomyfreedomliberty, self-sufficiencyself-relianceautonomy

Although I celebrate this holiday with the Nation, I also celebrate my Dependence Day.  Let me explain….

Forty-eight years ago, I left my days of independence – doing things MY WAY…asking no one for help – not even God,…being self reliant, self-sufficient, and basically ‘hell bent’ on having my own way.   I left those days and answered the door when Jesus came knocking at my heart.

I am now in the state of relying on, and being controlled by Him!  I ask His counsel about everything.  He’s in charge.  He rules and reigns!

Do I still have days of independence?  Unfortunately…yes.  But they are few and far between.  I have learned that being dependent upon God Almighty for everything gives me a far better life!

I leave you with this passage to ponder…

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever. -Psalm 23

Hope you all have a wonderful 4th with family and friends!  Stay safe!
