If you’re a parent…I’m sure you are well aware of the song called, Let It Go from the movie, Frozen. Here are just a few of the words to that song.
The snow glows white on the mountain tonight
Not a footprint to be seen.
A kingdom of isolation,
and it looks like I’m the Queen….
Don’t let them in,
don’t let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don’t feel,
don’t let them know…. –Idina Menzel
I know for sure, as I live and breathe…we ALL have things in our past that we need to let go of! Things that have festered in the deep recesses of our hearts…abuse from those that we thought loved us…cruel words harshly spoken in anger…unspeakable treatment…neglect…. But, it’s time to LET IT GO!
I heard someone say the following…
“I’m too old for new grudges…. I’m still trying to get rid of the old ones!”
I KNOW for me, that statement is true! I think I’ve forgiven someone. I’ve taken it to God in prayer. I’ve asked God to heal me of the hurt caused by the actions of some in my past. And, for the most part-I live a normal life. But…ever so often, something is said or done by someone in my present, and it triggers memories from the past…and all hell breaks loose!
I realize in those moments of chaos, I haven’t let it go! I’m still hanging on to a part of it. It’s become a grudge now…a poison inside of me, festering out…spilling over into my present.
So, how do we overcome these deep hurts from our past? Well, from my experience-it won’t happen over night! We will have to go to the Lord in prayer on a daily basis and trust Him that He will take care of it all. We have to rely on Him to heal our wounded hearts! And…He WILL…if we truly desire not to be grudge bearers.
I think I said this in a post a few days back…but it bears repeating.
When you live in the past…it costs you the present and there will be no future.
Here’s the question:
Do you want to be the King or Queen of a kingdom of isolation? Or, would you rather live in a house of love?
LET IT GO!
