When Job’s three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite, heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him.” -Job 2:11

Last night, we were blessed to have a wonderful time of fellowship with two of our dear friends.  We enjoyed good food together.  We laughed.  We voiced concerns.  We admitted faults.  We reminisced times with other friends, sharing funny moments.  We spoke of angels.  We blessed God for His goodness…and when all was said and done, and the evening came to an end…the sweetness of our time together with them,  lingered on.

True friendship is like a healing balm!  Your faults are known, but you are loved anyway.  There is no judgement, only compassion…no shame, only comfort…no fault-finding, only forgiveness…no harsh words, only love.

This is the same kind of relationship God wants us to have with Him. When He saw us in our sin, He didn’t judge us…He had compassion.  The Bible I puts it this way:  ” But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” -Romans 5:8  When we confess our sin, there is no shame, only comfort…no fault-finding, only forgiveness…no reprimands, only LOVE!

I read a book, I believe it was by Randy Alcorn.  I can’t even remember the title of it, but it was about a persecuted Christian in China.  When the missionary came to this man’s house for dinner, he saw three places set at the table.  When they sat down to partake, it was only the Chinese man and him.  The other seat was empty.  The missionary asked where the person that was set at the HEAD of the table was.  The Chinese man replied, that seat if for my Lord Jesus.  I always set a place for Him…He’s invited to every meal!

We should invite Jesus to eat with us…to be with us all the time.  We should ask for His Presence… then we can voice our concerns to Him, admit our faults, ask Him to show us the mysteries in His Word, reminisce with Him regarding the good friends He’s given us, thank Him for His goodness to us.  And when the evening comes to an end, the sweetness of our time together with Him will linger on….  For, “…there is a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” -Proverbs 18:24b

  1. I am always stitching together Matthew 25:40 with Revelation 3:20 and taking a group of homeless men and women to the church house door, knocking, and quoting. (When you saw me a stranger… on of the least of these… you let me in…/Behold! I stand at the door and knock. If you invite me in, I will party with you.)

It is in the breading of the bread (Luke 24 Emmaus Road story) that the disciples see Jesus for who he really is!

Btw, I want friends like that in my life. If you ever come to Lubbock, I hope you and your family will visit my home.

    God bless…
