Have you ever tried to read the Bible through in a years time?  I’ve tried several times!  I did real well until I got to Books that contained nothing but names.  Chapter after chapter read the same way to me…”So and So begat So and So, and they died….”  It was so boring, I couldn’t get past it!

Then, years later, this past Sunday in fact, I go to church and hear Pastor preach on that very thing!  If you missed it…you missed a real blessing, as well as an eye opener!  The message began with the meaning of a few names-historical records from Adam to Abraham.  Let me show you what I learned.  Here are the meanings of each name from Adam to Abraham:

Seth-Was appointed

Vlahaialel-The Blessed God

Jared-Shall come down

Methuselah-His death shall bring

Lamech-The despairing

Noah-Rest and Peace

All of the above names had/have a meaning.  Now, here’s the cool thing Pastor showed us…read it all like a sentence.  It says this…

Man was appointed mortal, and sorrow.  The Blessed God shall come down teaching; His death shall bring the despairing rest and peace!

Isn’t that amazing?  I was flabbergasted!  From now on when I get to those “boring” passages where there’s nothing but names and genealogy, I will look up the meaning of each name and find the REAL message in those Books!

There are many treasures in the Bible, but like those here on earth, we must SEARCH for them.  Read this verse below:

John 5:39-47The Message (MSG)

39-40 “You have your heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you’ll find eternal life there. But you miss the forest for the trees. These Scriptures are all about me! And here I am, standing right before you, and you aren’t willing to receive from me the life you say you want.

Jesus is the real treasure of the Bible!  He has revealed Himself throughout its pages in hopes that we will see HIM as the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE!

Don’t just read your Bible…search for Him, and you will find Him!
