Here is the promise I drew from the box this morning.  It was verse 23.  Then I decided to take a look at the verse right after.  Here are both verses from the MSG version of the Bible.

23 Fear-of-God is life itself,
a full life, and serene—no nasty surprises.

24 Some people dig a fork into the pie
but are too lazy to raise it to their mouth. -Proverbs 19:23 & 24

Verse 24 really puts things into perspective.  We can have a full and serene life, IF we KNOW and FEAR God.  I don’t mean ‘fear’ as in needing to cower in His presence; the word ‘fear’ in the above verse is in the context of ‘showing reverence’ to God for Who and What He is.  He is the all-powerful being who created the heavens and the earth, and all that is in them!  He deserves our honor and respect.  We need to revere Him because He IS the Almighty God!

When I read verse 24, I am reminded of another verse in the Bible that says in Psalm 34:8: Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

In verse 24 of Proverbs 19, it suggests that some folks can see how good the pie (God) looks, and even dig a fork into it (go to church, hear the Word, see the truth of all that God has done to save them), but for some reason, they refuse to raise it to their mouth (take Him in, and taste and see that the Lord is good.)  How sad!

We need to thank the Lord for the privilege of fellowship and communion we as Believers  can have with Him.  If you have not yet tasted of the Lord…now’s your chance!  All you have to do is call on Him…ask Him to save you…HE WILL!  I assure you, once you taste… you will know that the Lord…HE IS GOOD!
