“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV
Well…I don’t know about you…but the above verse is a TALL order for me! I know that worry will not change a thing, I know it is distrusting God…I KNOW it! But, I still continue to fret about things and cause myself sleepless nights and heartburn!
Worry is choice we make…it is NOT something God had in His plan for us.
I used to attend a church on South Broadway, here in Denver. The pastor of that church, Harvey Springer, had a big banner draped across one entire side of the building, facing the busy street. It simply read: “WHY PRAY…WHEN YOU CAN WORRY?” I was only in my late teens when I attended that church, but that phrase has stuck with me all these years.
Prayer needs to be our FIRST response when anxiety comes knocking! Prayer causes us to turn our focus on God and remember all that He has done for us in the past!
Remember these wise words:
“WORRY DOES NOT EMPTY TOMORROW OF ITS SORROW, IT EMPTIES TODAY OF ITS STRENGTH!” -Corrie Ten Boom
