This morning, when I awoke, my heart was heavy.  I’m not sure why…after a day of rest yesterday, I should have been refreshed; but not the case.  I was in deep prayer for the restoration of my son-overwhelmed with his need to come back to the Lord.  He’s not a bad kid…quite the contrary, but he has forgotten what Jesus has done, and can continue to do for him.  He’s so talented, and could do so much to bring folks into worship with his music!

I needed some peace, so decided to listen to Francesca Battistelli’s song, Holy Spirit.  As I listened, I remembered a couple of other songs about the Holy Spirit-old hymns.  Here are some of the words.  I hope they give you comfort, as they did for me!

“He…shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit.”  Romans 8:11

Holy Spirit, Light divine, shine upon this heart of mine; Chase the shades of night away, turn my darkness into day.  Holy Spirit, all divine, dwell within this heart of mine; Cast down every idol throne, reign supreme, and reign alone. -Andrew Reed, 1817

“Be filled with the Spirit.”  Eph. 5:18

Hover o’er me, Holy Spirit, bathe my trembling heart and brow; fill me with your hollowed presence, Come…O come and fill me now!  Cleanse and comfort, bless and save me, bathe, O bathe my heart and brow; You are comforting and saving…Come, O come and save me now! -Elwood H. Stokes 1879
