2 Thess. 2:16,17 reads: Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.
When I read this passage this morning, I was struck by the idea that believers could actually be given comfort and strength by the giving of kind words and deeds. The Lord will strengthen us and comfort us as we reach out to bless! How often do we just think of receiving good things from God. We pray that He will bless us with peaceful hearts and the will to keep going…
Here, in the Word, it tells us one way we can get comfort and strength. Simply GIVE! It is, indeed, a blessing to help others. It lifts us up, makes our everyday burdens seem lighter, and puts a spring in our step. When we get our eyes off of our own problems and look to help our neighbor, our perspective changes. Not only that, but God promises to bless us with comfort and strength. So it’s not merely a psychological exercise in order to change ones demeanor, but it is actually a real thing. God’s blessings are real. Take your burdens to Him today. He may ask you to reach out to someone to help them with an encouraging word or a kind deed. But know that He is real, and can really change things in your own life’s circumstances as well.
