“Sprituality”

It’s All In Your Head

Luke 10:27 “And he answered, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.’”

Spirituality is sometimes confused with feelings and heart issues, when in fact the Bible clearly tells us that true spirituality is really in our heads.  Check out this verse:

Romans 8:6 “For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.”

The Holy Spirit tells us that if we set our minds on our own desires and wants, then we will only find eternal death as our reward. But if we set our mind on God, his Holy Spirit brings us an amazing life now and forever that is full of hope and peace.

What is going on in your head?

Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Becoming a follower of Christ is not restrictive, rather it opens up a whole new world of exciting possibilities and adventures in the Kingdom of God. It does require, though, that we do not embrace or be conformed to the patterns, expectations or desires of the streets. By renewing our minds as Christians, God will give us wisdom and discernment to know and do what is good, acceptable and perfect for our lives. This renewed mind is true spiritualty. We sometimes fall into the trap that “spirituality” means lighting candles, soft repetitive music, quite voices or even worse, magic charms, mystical mantras, Tarot card, Ouija Boards and other “spiritual” occult practices. We need to be very careful when we understand God’s true spirituality, that is having the mind of Christ.

I Corinthians 2:16 “’For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.”

Philippians 2:2 “…complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.”

Philippians 4:7 “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Worry, grief, anxiety, and fear are all attacks on our spirit and our mind. So the Lord wants to give us his peace that passes all understanding, in every circumstance. Even when all seems lost or hopeless, he grants us his peace, if we will just focus our thoughts on him. In other words, when we place our trust on our Creator God, he pours out his peace on us that will actually guard our hearts and minds.

That is true spirituality.

Hebrews 8:10 “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

Put away all things that are not the mind of Christ.

What is going on upstairs at your house?
