My Baptism: Michael Pfau

My Baptism

When I was a small child

looking up at a man

sprinkling my head with water so mild

with parents doing the best they can

I don’t remember

but I was told

it was december

and boy was it cold.

many years had past

many of those days struggling

trying to do things on my own, lost…

satan kept on tugging

until I looked up and heard the cross

Jesus said, the time has come

I offer my open heart and arms

and I’ll show you where I am from

I will give you the armor and arms

and give you life anew

It was then I knew

I was to commit myself to Jesus

under the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Upon emerging from the water

I knew this time it was for real

God’s grace

and my free will

changed my life forever.

That beautiful day in August 2014, in my dear friend’s pond, is a day I shall never forget.  I encourage each and every individual to consider making this commitment of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.  It has changed my life ten thousand fold.  God is waiting. Are you ready?

Sometimes as Christians we can get very negative opinions about ourselves.

We look at other Christians who seem to be God’s gift of evangelism, music, or hospitality and we play the compare game.

I know a lot of Pastors and Bible teachers who over analyze themselves to the point of self-accusation.  We listen to that voice that says, “Why did I say that? or “I am not qualified”.

As Christians we need to be very aware that Satan is the accuser and we are his targets. So what if we aren’t always perfect. We were not meant to be. GOD IS PERFECT…WE ARE NOT! Knowing this can be a big relief and a big responsibility. We don’t have to go around beating ourselves up because we messed up a conversation or missed an opportunity.

Yes God will teach us through experiences but He is not the accuser, Satan is. We need to check and see whose side we are on. God convicts and Satan accuses. There is a big difference. Our responsibility is to say, “yes” to God when He encourages us and give Him full credit, and say, “no” to Satan who wants to chew us up and spit us out.

2 Cor. 4:14-15We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus, will also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself together with you. 15 All of this is for your benefit.   And as God’s grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory.

A PERFECT STRANGER August 19, 2015

“…They reel to and fro, and stagger, like a drunken man, and are at their wit’s end.  Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses.”  Psalms 107:27-28

A perfect stranger came into my life.

She didn’t know it,

But she was in strife.

As I struggled to get her keys out of the ignition,

I knew God had put me into perfect position.

I’ve been here before

With Satan knocking on my door.

But this day was different…

I had God on my side,

To fight the enemy with pride.

She fought me tooth and nail, and tried to break my spirit down.

She said hurtful, sinful things, punched, kicked and screamed.

I wondered why the police hadn’t come yet;

But it was because God wasn’t done yet!

I continued to hold her arms tight,

And she continued to put up a fight.

God was in the car that day,

And it was Him who used my tongue to say:

“You are better than this!”

“You are special!”

“Jesus loves you!”

As I said these words,

The enemy fled.

And all that was left,

Was a woman in need.

I caressed her hair and reminded her of God’s love;

I let her know, God sent me to her from above.

The police finally came and took her away.

So…what will you do or say,

When that perfect stranger, comes YOUR way?

PAYMENTS? … OR … REWARDS! August 18, 2015

“For God SO LOVED the world, that He gave His ONLY begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  John 3:16

I have decided to follow Jesus…no turning back…no turning back! -Unknown

I received a catalog in the mail today…

The cover was striking!  It bore my name with some advice:

Save your credit cards for other things – you’re pre-approved for ***** credit!

There was also an ominous sticker below that read:

LAST CHANCE:  We don’t want to bother you with unwanted catalogs.  This could be your FINAL CATALOG.  Please order TODAY to receive future editions!

Payments as low as $20 per month

Now, let me say…I’m not usually sucked in too easily by that kind of stuff, but it was packaged so attractively, and presented so well, that I have to admit…it looked pretty tempting!

As I opened the catalog, and started browsing through, I found myself coveting the beautiful things found within its pages.

Then, God opened my eyes, and gave me a Spiritual lesson.  He reminded me of a sermon my dad preached once, titled:  SEE…COVET…TAKE.

The Bible says that Eve looked on the fruit, saw that it was good (desired it), and took it to eat…after a few words from the devil.  In the Garden, the devil used God’s very words to Eve, but distorted the whole meaning by changing one word.  God said: “Thou shalt not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  For in the day you eat thereof, you SHALL surely die.”  When the devil tempted Eve, he said in Genesis 3:4, “And the serpent (the devil) said unto the woman, “You shall NOT surely die…”

So…getting back to the lesson in the catalog…..

This is how Satan tempts us.  He puts striking, well packaged, expertly presented, things in our path…things with our name on them. He knows a lot about Marketing!   He says stuff like: “Save your rocking chair moments for your older years…you’re young…you have lots of time…you look ‘hot’ now, so use it to your advantage!  After all…this could be your last chance!”  Then he quotes scripture (taken out of context), “Even God said tomorrow is promised to no man…this could be your FINAL chance to live!  So go ahead…do it TODAY… LIVE NOW…PAY LATER!  Your payment to me will be miniscule compared to all the fun you’ll be having!”

But the Bible says: “The wages of sin is death…”

My dad, who was a farmer in his younger years, used a lot of analogies about crops.  He used to say: “Some of you think you can go out on Saturday night and sow your wild Oats, then come to church on Sunday morning and pray for a crop failure…but it just doesn’t work that way!  God said we will reap what we sow!”

If you follow Satan and his advice, he will bring you to your knees…not willingly…but out of desperation.

I’d rather fall on my knees, willingly before a loving God, and be approved by Him.  After all…HE died for me.  He paid the cost Then, so that I could have Now, AND Later!

There are no payments…only rewards in following Jesus!

MY JESUS August 17, 2015

“Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift!”  2Cor 9:15

If I could leave one thing to you,

Riches of the world, just would not do.

A beautiful home would be so nice…

But, security and money would not suffice.

So, if I may…I give to you,

The gift of Jesus, to see you through!

Money and fame, and earthly treasures,

Might make you happy, or give you pleasure,

But the greatest gift I could bestow,

Is the Creator of Heaven and earth, below;

For through Jesus, all things were made,

But the greatest gift, He already gave,

When He gave His life for you and me

On the tree at Calvary!

So, my love, I give you Jesus!

Don’t waste, or throw Him away.

Learn to trust and love Him…

For He’s the Truth, the Life, the Way.

Put Him first, and ALL happiness follows…

Try Him! … He’s tried and true!

So, my love, I give you Jesus…

MY Jesus…to see you through!

I give you Jesus, for he is love.

I give you Jesus, more than enough!

Greater than any gift I could give…

Here is my Jesus…take Him, and live!

I give you Jesus…take Him and live!

Sermon Notes: Doubting Satatn

Doubting Satan

Doubting Thomas

Oh How I Need You  by All Sons and Daughters

Lord I find You in the seeking
Lord I find You in the doubt
And to know You is to love You
And to know so little else
I need You, Oh how I need You, Oh how I need You
Oh how I need You

Satan Is a Liar

John 8:31

Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

33 “But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?”

34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. 35 A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. 37 Yes, I realize that you are descendants of Abraham. And yet some of you are trying to kill me because there’s no room in your hearts for my message. 38 I am telling you what I saw when I was with my Father. But you are following the advice of your father.”

39 “Our father is Abraham!” they declared.

“No,” Jesus replied, “for if you were really the children of Abraham, you would follow his example. 40 Instead, you are trying to kill me because I told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing. 41 No, you are imitating your real father.”

They replied, “We aren’t illegitimate children! God himself is our true Father.”

42 Jesus told them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me. 43 Why can’t you understand what I am saying? It’s because you can’t even hear me! 44 For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 So when I tell the truth, you just naturally don’t believe me! 46 Which of you can truthfully accuse me of sin? And since I am telling you the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47 Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God. But you don’t listen because you don’t belong to God.”

Doubt No. 1

Matthew 6:13

‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Doubt No. 2
Matthew 13:19

“When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart.

Doubt No.3

2 Thessalonians 3:3

Doubting God

But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.

Doubt No. 4

1 Timothy 3:7

Doubting Yourself

1 Timothy 3:7 (TLB)

Also, he must be well spoken of by people outside the church—those who aren’t Christians—so that Satan can’t trap him with many accusations and leave him without freedom to lead his flock.

Deuteronomy 31:6 (MSG)

“Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t give them a second thought because God, your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you.”

Satan knows your name but calls you by your sin. God knows your sin but calls you by your name.

Greater By Mercy Me

Verse 1

Bring your tired, bring your shame. Bring your guilt, bring your pain

Don’t you know that’s not your name.

You will always be much more to me

Everyday I wrestle with the voices

That keep telling me I’m not right, but that’s alright

Cause I hear a voice and he calls me redeemed

When others say I’ll never be enough

And greater is the One living inside of me

Than he who is living in the world

Doubt No. 5

2 Corinthians 2:10-11

2 Corinthians 2:10-11 (NLT)

When you forgive this man, I forgive him, too. And when I forgive whatever needs to be forgiven, I do so with Christ’s authority for your benefit, 11 so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.

Doubt No. 6

God’s Authority

Deuteronomy 13:5

“But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has counseled rebellion against the LORD your God who brought you from the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery, to seduce you from the way in which the LORD your God commanded you to walk So you shall purge the evil from among you.

How to Deal with Satan’s Lies

Three ways:

Revelation 12:11

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

  • By the Cross

The blood of the Lamb.
Colossians 2:15Living Bible (TLB)

15 In this way God took away Satan’s power to accuse you of sin, and God openly displayed to the whole world Christ’s triumph at the cross where your sins were all taken away.

  • By Courageous Confession

The word of their testimony. This is not just standing up and saying, “I want to tell you what Jesus has done for me.” The Bible is the Word of our testimony—the Word of God. Bring the Word of God against these lies.

  • By Total, Unashsamed, Sold Out, no Doubt Commitment

Total surrender. “They loved not their lives unto the death.” They said, “I’m going for God even if I die serving Jesus.”

John 11:16  New Living Translation

Thomas, nicknamed the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let’s go, too–and die with Jesus.”

Take Courage

Acts 27:27-28:5The Voice (VOICE)

27-28 Imagine what happened: It’s the 14th night of our nightmare voyage; we’re being driven by the storm somewhere in the Adriatic Sea. It’s about midnight, and the sailors are taking soundings, fearing we might run aground. “Twenty fathoms,” somebody calls out in the darkness, then a little later, “Fifteen fathoms.” We’re nearing land! 29 But hope quickly gives way to a new fear. At any moment in this darkness, they realize, we could be smashed onto unseen rocks. So they drop four anchors from the stern and pray for first light.

30 Then some of the crew decide to make a run for it on their own. They say they need to let out more anchors from the bow, and this will require lowering the ship’s lifeboat. They actually plan to abandon us; we realize what’s going on. 31 Paul quickly speaks to the officer and soldiers.

Paul: Unless these men stay on board, you won’t survive.

32 So the soldiers intervene, cut away the lifeboat, and let it drift away. 33, 37 We wait. Just before dawn, Paul again gathers everyone on the ship—all 276 of us. He urges everyone to eat and encourages us not to lose hope.

Paul: Listen, men, we’ve all been under incredible stress for 14 days. You haven’t eaten anything during this whole time. 34 I urge you to take some food now because it will help you survive what we’re about to face. And I want to assure you—not one of you will lose a single hair from your head. We’re all going to make it—all 276 of us!

35 Then Paul takes a loaf of bread and gives thanks to God in front of all of them. He breaks it, takes a piece, and begins to eat. 36 A fresh surge of courage seems to fill their hearts as they also begin to eat. 38 After satisfying their hunger, the crew lightens the ship by throwing the remaining wheat overboard. 39 Day finally breaks. They survey the coastline and don’t recognize it, but they do notice a bay with a beach—the best place to try to run ashore.

40 So they cut the anchor ropes, untie the steering oars, hoist the foresail to the wind, and make for the beach. 41 But then there’s a horrible sound, and we realize we’ve struck a reef; the bow is jammed solid, and the waves are smashing the stern to pieces. 42 The soldiers start talking about killing the prisoners so they won’t swim away and escape; 43 but the officer wants to save Paul, so he stops them. He tells those who can swim to jump overboard and swim to the shore, 44 and those who can’t, he tells to hold on to planks and other pieces of the ship when it breaks apart. Some hours later, we reassemble on the beach, each one safe and sound.

28 We quickly learned that we were on the island of Malta. 2 The Maltese people found us and were extraordinarily kind to us. They kindled a bonfire and welcomed us around it, which we greatly appreciated because it was raining and cold. 3 Paul was gathering firewood and helping build the fire. A viper had been hiding in some of the wood, and as it tried to escape the heat, it bit Paul on the hand. It sank its fangs in and wouldn’t let go. 4 The natives saw it dangling from his hand.

Natives: This man must be a murderer. He escaped the sea, but now justice has caught up with him.

They kept expecting him to drop dead, but when it was obvious he wasn’t going to, they jumped to the conclusion that he was a god!

MY GRAMMY… August 15, 2015

“…The words I command you this day shall be in your heart: And you shall teach them diligently unto your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.  And you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be ever before your eyes.  And you shall write them upon the post of your house and on the gates…”  Deuteronomy 6: 6-9

My Grammy strong and brave,

The Lord has blessed her from the grave.

In heaven, to her delight,

The Lord keeps her in His sight.

The brightness and beauty from her heart…

We were all part.

God’s plan is so true…

Just pray when you are blue.

Grammy was happy to leave this place;

She is dancing with Jesus, Full of grace.

You should see the smile on her face!

THE REMEDY FOR DOUBT August 14, 2015

We can stop doubting when we realize that God is good, and He always wants what is best for us! -Unknown

Doubt is the opposite of faith.

Doubt says, “I am not sure because of what I know.” Faith on the other hand says, “I believe because I trust God for what I have not seen.”

The more we spend time with God in prayer, Bible reading, sharing the Good News, worship, etc. the more doubts fade and faith grows stronger. I have found the greatest antidote to doubt is sharing my faith with others. The Bible says, Mark 4:22-24    22 “All that is now hidden will someday come to light. 23 If you have ears, listen 24 And be sure to put into practice what you hear. The more you do this, the more you will understand what I tell you

.Doubt is a tool of Satan to make us lack confidence in God’s Word and consider His judgment unlikely. Come Alive by trusting in God and doing what He says. The more you do the less you will doubt.

Christ sends us out to bring others in. -Unknown

It was a Sunday morning,

And as I usually do,

I went into McDonald’s,

To get breakfast for my crew.

On my way in, two other ladies

Graciously opened the door.

I gave a smile and said my “thanks!”,

And went on to my task as before;

When one lady said,

“Well!  You look rather nice…are you headed out to church?”

I said, “As a matter of fact…I am!”

And she gave me a searching look.

“Well, will you pray for us?…

See…we’re on our way up to Vail.

We’re going to see the beautiful trees,

Before they fade and fail…”

I said, “Of course I will! …

Tell me…what are your names?”

Then their faces lit up,

As they recognized,

I wasn’t playing

A ‘courteous’ game.

They gave me their names, and we talked awhile,

Then said our final “good-byes”.

And it wasn’t until I got to the church,

That I fully realized…

They must have seen something different in me;

And I’m not talking about my attire.

They KNEW when we parted ways, that I’d pray…

I was genuine…not a liar.

But more than being authentic,

I wonder…What else did they see?

Did they smell His aroma?  Did they sense His love?

Did they see Jesus in me?

The smile that I gave…

Did it mirror His face?

Did my words of concern,

Make them feel His embrace?

When time has passed,

And they recall that day…

Will they remember seeing Jesus?

Was my heart right?  What did I display?

Life nowadays, is so hurried and busy,

And because I have Jesus to fall back on, I sometimes fail to see other folks misery;

I forget that not everyone knows Him

In the personal way that I do…

They have no idea,

That HE can bring them through!

And the things that I do…

The things done by me…

May be the ONLY Jesus

They will ever see!

So, let my heart continually utter this prayer…

Let it my constant longing be:

That YOU JESUS, will be seen shinning in my life…

Let YOUR reflection be seen in me!
