Five Ways to Test a Prophet

  1. Consistent with God’s word. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away – Matthew 24:35
    Isaiah 8:20New Living Translation (NLT)

Isaiah 8:20 Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark.

  1. Prophecies should encourage you to draw closer to Jesus.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (NLT)

We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

  1. Does my church family confirm it?
    Ephesians 3:10 (VOICE)

Here’s His objective: through the church, He intends now to make known His infinite and boundless wisdom to all rulers and authorities in heavenly realms.

  1. Is it consistent with the way God made you.

Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

“Your greatest ministry will come from your deepest hurt” – Rick Warren

  1. True prophecy is convicting not condemning.

Titus 3:4-7 (NLT)

When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, 5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. 6 He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. 7 Because of his grace he declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.

Hearing from God

  1. You must know that God cares about every detail of your life.

Matthew 10:30 (NIV) And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

  1. You must expect an answer from God.

James 1:5-7  5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

Words of Habakkuk

Habakkuk 2 (NLT)

2 I will climb up to my watchtower                  Withdraw

and stand at my guardpost.                           Watch

There I will wait to see what the Lord says  Wait

and how he will answer my complaint.

The Lord’s Second Reply

2 Then the Lord said to me,

“Write my answer plainly on tablets,             Read

so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.

Prophecies about Jesus

Jesus fulfilled over 300 Old Testament Prophesies.

Jesus Prophet

13 When Jesus came to Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who are the people saying I am?”

14 “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist; some, Elijah; some, Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.”

15 Then he asked them, “Who do you think I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered, “The Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

17 “God has blessed you, Simon, son of Jonah,” Jesus said, “for my Father in heaven has personally revealed this to you—this is not from any human source. 18 You are Peter, a stone; and upon this rock I will build my church; and all the powers of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven; whatever doors you lock on earth shall be locked in heaven; and whatever doors you open on earth shall be open in heaven!”

20 Then he warned the disciples against telling others that he was the Messiah.

21 From then on Jesus began to speak plainly to his disciples about going to Jerusalem, and what would happen to him there—that he would suffer at the hands of the Jewish leaders, that he would be killed, and that three days later he would be raised to life again.

22 But Peter took him aside to remonstrate with him. “Heaven forbid, sir,” he said. “This is not going to happen to you!”

23 Jesus turned on Peter and said, “Get away from me, you Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are thinking merely from a human point of view, and not from God’s.”

24 Then Jesus said to the disciples, “If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For anyone who keeps his life for himself shall lose it; and anyone who loses his life for me shall find it again. 26 What profit is there if you gain the whole world—and lose eternal life? What can be compared with the value of eternal life? 27 For I, the Son of Mankind, shall come with my angels in the glory of my Father and judge each person according to his deeds. 28 And some of you standing right here now will certainly live to see me coming in my Kingdom.”
