RESENTMENT, REGRET, AND FORGIVENESS June 16, 2015

“Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet, but this one thing I do:  FORGETTING what lies behind, and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”             Philippians 3:13-14

“Resentment is the cocaine of the emotions…like cocaine, it demands increasingly large and more frequent dosages.  There is a dangerous point at which anger ceases to be an emotion and becomes a driving force.  A person bent on revenge moves unknowingly further and further away from being able to forgive…”

“Hatred is the rabid dog that turns on its owner.  Revenge is the raging fire that consumes the arsonist.  Bitterness is the trap that snares the hunter.  And mercy is the choice that can set them all free.” –Max Lucado ( from The Applause of Heaven)
