“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
A few years ago, when a couple of my children were teens and going through some very difficult times, I went through a real crisis of faith. I did a lot of soul-searching, thinking that either I had totally misunderstood Christianity, or that it simply was not true.
After a great struggle, I realized I had made a huge error. I was thinking Christianity was like a formula…if you took A, and added B, you would get the desired result, C.
When this formula appeared to be failing in regards to my children, I had a very difficult time. Then, I realized that if God just gave us formulas, we would have no need for Him. We could just go through life doing A+B=C; but, I found that I was not asking God for help, nor was I trusting Him to bear my burdens.
This realization has had a huge impact on my Christian walk!
